A ghost painting, which is said to be the true writing of Oo Maruyama, a painter from the middle and late Edo period, was released on June 15 at Kudo Temple (Sakamoto, Hirosaki City).

At the temple, on the day of May 18th in the lunar calendar, the ghost paintings of the Okyo possession are released. It is said that it will rain every year on the day it is open to the public, and the city on that day has become unstable due to rain and weakness from the morning.

According to Tomofumi Kosaka, the priest of the temple, the woman depicted in the ghost painting is the wife of Okyo. "Before Okyo, who couldn't draw a ghost because he had never seen a ghost, it was this painting that made his life appear," he said. "The 18th day of the lunar calendar is the anniversary of the death of Okyo's wife, and it is only open for memorial purposes on this day."

The ghost paintings that Okyo was said to have painted for the first time are now in the University of California, Berkeley Museum of Art. It is said to be the same as the work owned by the temple, but the expression is different. Last year, there was a person who visited from America to see this ghost painting at a glance. “I said it was'friendly ',” said Takasaka. A woman in her 70s living in the prefecture who visited this day also said, "I had a gentle look that I can't think of as a ghost painting."

Only open to the public for one day. Only one hour from noon. Next year, it is scheduled to be released on May 18, Lunar calendar.
