Cultivation of corn "Takemi", which is a special product in the Utaki district of Hirosaki City, Aomori Prefecture, began in early May to late June.

Takemi is a corn that has a sugar content of over 18 degrees and is said to be sweeter than melon. In the Tsugaru region where cultivation is carried out, corn is called "Kimi" in the dialect, and is known as "Takemi", which means corn grown in the Take district.

The mountainous area is also known as the plateau (elevation 450 to 600 meters), and the amount of snow in winter is higher than in the city. It is a heavy snowfall area where it is likely that the height of the house will be almost filled with snow. The temperature difference between day and night is severe, and the temperature difference is over 10 ℃. Growing in a harsh environment for crops produces a sweetness that is incomparable to that of corn grown on flat land. The individual fruits of each bamboo are tightened, and the texture that pops up is a characteristic of the environment in the Take district.

Takemi's cultivation period is about 3 months. Every year, the work of making soil and sowing begins after the consecutive holidays in May when the remaining snow begins to disappear, and the planting is done until the end of June. Ships from mid-August to late September. The early ones may be available from early August when the Nebuta Festival is crowded.
