    On August 1st, the "Yurei Exhibition", a collection of ghost images, started at Hirosaki's gallery, Moriyama (Toki, Hirosaki, TEL 0172-35-6787).

    This exhibition features about 80 hanging scrolls, Nishiki-e, and Neputa-pictures depicting ghosts borrowed from Hirosaki and Kuroishi temples. It was exhibited only during the Bon festival every year in order to memorialize the paintings, but this year it will be held 7 days a week. Mr. Yutaka Moriyama, the director of the museum, said, "There was a request not only for the Bon Festival but also for a long time."

    This year, the number of hanging scrolls for ghost paintings unknown to the author has been increased by a dozen points, and new Nishiki-e paintings depicting ghosts are on display. A ghost painting by Kinzaburo Watanabe, who was talked about as "the eyes that should have been closed were opened" during live broadcasting on TV, and an Edo era artist Ou Maruyama owned by Kudo Temple (Sakamoto, Hirosaki City) A replica of a supposed ghost painting is also on display.

    Mr. Moriyama says, "For the exhibition of hell pictures, I was particular about the exhibition method, such as increasing the number of explanatory notes for children. The exhibition period was extended, so please feel free to visit us during summer vacation."

    Opening hours are from 10:00 to 18:00. Admission is 500 yen for adults and 300 yen for elementary and junior high school students. Until August 31st.
