The "1st Hirosaki Translation Mystery Reading Party" was held on May 21 at Hirosaki Kokusai Hotel (Toshimachi, Hirosaki City).

The translation mystery novel fans gather to discuss and comment on the book and exchange information. It is held at more than 20 locations nationwide through the "Translation Mystery Award Syndicate" network. Hirosaki is the third venue in the Tohoku region following Fukushima and Sendai.

On this day, 12 people gathered from both inside and outside the prefecture, and there were also people who participated from reading events in each region. From Tokyo, mystery book critic Matsui Sugie and translator Masamichi Higurashi participated. “I was surprised when I received a request from Mr. Higurashi, who works on many translations for the Sherlock Holmes series,” said Hideki Motoki, the caretaker of the association.

Mr. Motoki said, "I wanted a place to talk about translated mystery novels. When I lived in the suburbs of Tokyo, there was a friend who talked about mystery novels every week, but after returning to Hirosaki, my friends were around. Since I wasn't there, I've been thinking for a few years to have my own reading party." “Because the network is strong, it was encouraging that many people supported us before the event,” he said.

A woman in her 20s who participated from Hirosaki said, “I was hoping that there would be a translation mystery reading party in Aomori Prefecture, but I was surprised because it happened in Hirosaki City.”

“I would like to hold this once every three months,” says Motoki. The event will be announced on the website.
