On March 22nd, sharing of the square in front of the west exit of Aomori Station began.

From September 2021, this construction has continued to improve the Aomori Station east-west free passage and strengthening the traffic node function. In addition to establishing a bus pool for municipal buses, sightseeing buses, and the shuttle route bus "Nebutan-go", a parking lot that can be used free of charge for up to 30 minutes, a parking lot for 493 bicycles, a motorcycle parking lot, and a taxi pool have been established. .

In addition to strengthening transportation functions, a barrier-free toilet has been newly installed next to the station free passage exit. There are two urinals and two toilets in the men's restroom, three women's restrooms, and a multi-purpose restroom. Aomori Station currently only has temporary universal toilets inside the ticket gates and near the east exit passage, so there will be three toilets in the station until the station building construction is completed.

From April 1, the "Nebutan-go" changed its route to the West Exit, and newly established routes such as in front of the Forestry Museum. Municipal bus services will be expanded to the West Exit, increasing the number of weekday services from 20 to 65.

The inauguration ceremony was held on March 21, attended by the mayor of Aomori and JR East officials.
