Heavy snow causes restricted areas in Hirosaki Park, resulting in fallen trees and broken trunks
Almost the entire Hirosaki Park was closed to the public on January 4th.
The record-breaking snowfall that began on January 1st has had a major impact on public transportation and the lives of residents. Hirosaki Park also suffered damage from fallen trees and broken trunks and branches. According to the Hirosaki City Urban Development Department Parks and Green Spaces Division, which manages Hirosaki Park, as of 12:00 on January 4th, eight fallen trees, eight broken trunks, and numerous broken branches have been confirmed. Some cherry trees have fallen and broken trunks.
As Hirosaki City was unable to ensure the safety of people passing through the grounds, on January 3rd it made the Honmaru, Kitanokura, Ninomaru, Sannomaru, and Nishinokura areas off-limits, and on January 4th it also made the area from Otemon Gate to Sugi-no-Ohashi Bridge off-limits.
According to the department, there is a risk of further fallen trees due to future snowfall, and it is not yet clear when the ban on entry will be lifted.
