On November 2nd, Asamushi Aquarium (Asamu, Aomori City, TEL 017-752-3377 ) began a Saturday-only event called "Night Aquarium."

The aquarium will be lit up in a blue-based nighttime color scheme, allowing visitors to enjoy the dark atmosphere of the ocean while observing the nocturnal behavior of creatures. The event will begin at 5 p.m., the usual closing time, and run until 7 p.m. After the COVID-19 pandemic, the aquarium will be held for the first time in five years in response to requests from customers for the "night aquarium" to resume.

On the first day, a line formed at the entrance with visitors, including families with children, who had been waiting for the aquarium to reopen. According to the aquarium, about 900 people visited the aquarium. Shun Kinoshita of the aquarium's Fish Group in charge of the "Night Aquarium" said, "We were surprised to see so many visitors, more than we expected, coming to the aquarium from the first day."

Kinoshita has been working at the aquarium for two years, and this is the first time she has been put in charge of the aquarium at night. Kinoshita, who enjoys using lighting to create spatial effects in her private life, said, "I was particular about the color of the lighting for each tank, and tried to make the fish look even more beautiful. I had a hard time getting the colors right, but I was able to do it because it's something I love. I want everyone to take their time to look at each tank and enjoy the fish at night, which they don't usually get to see."

As a highlight of the event, special tanks will be set up in the event hall on the first floor to display rare nocturnal fish such as the scallop sea snake and spiny lobster, the adorable sleeping turtle, and fish that change color between day and night such as the butterflyfish and horned idol. In addition, keepers of the Marine Mammal House and the Dolphin House will provide explanations on observation points and other topics from time to time.

Kinoshita says, "I want people to feel like they're in the ocean at night with the fish and experience the unique atmosphere of an aquarium at night. I also hope they enjoy the differences from an aquarium during the day."

The exhibition will be held from 5pm to 7pm (entry until 6:30pm) until November 30th.
