On July 24, Seven-Eleven Japan (Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo) began selling "Dekamusubi Aomori Prefecture Squid Igamenchi" at Seven-Eleven stores in five Tohoku prefectures.

As part of the "Dashi-katsu + Locally Produced and Consumed for Healthy Living Fair," which takes into consideration local production and local consumption, "Ika no Igamenchi" is one of the eight varieties released. "Igamenchi" is a traditional home-cooked dish from the Tsugaru region, where the leftover squid tentacles are fried with vegetables. It is said that the recipe varies from household to household.

According to the company's product manager, there were many requests from local owners and employees to commercialize Igamenchi. Product development began with the idea of creating an impactful product in the form of "onigiri."

In developing the product, they focused on the size and cooking method that would preserve the texture of the squid tentacles from Aomori Prefecture. According to the person in charge, they checked around 10 supermarkets and markets in Aomori Prefecture and came up with an Igamenchi that would go well with onigiri. It is filled with mayonnaise sauce and topped with pickled ginger mayonnaise as an accent. The price is 280 yen per piece.

The person in charge smiled and said, "We want to spread the deliciousness of Igamenchi to customers both inside and outside Aomori Prefecture. We hope people enjoy the texture of the squid and its combination with pickled ginger mayonnaise."
