The "AOMORI NEBUCO FESTIVAL 2024," an exhibition of Nebuta artists' art works, will be held from July 31st at the "Aomori-Hakodate Ferry Memorial Ship Hakkoda Maru" (Yanagawa 1, Aomori City).

This is the first year for this exhibition. It will display art works using techniques and expressions unique to Nebuta made by Nebuta artists who are active in the Aomori Nebuta Festival. The "NEBU" in "NEBUCO" refers to Nebuta, and the "CO" refers to the Tsugaru dialect "~kko," which is used for cooperation, concept, and things that you are attached to.

This year, 15 artists will be exhibiting: Takashi Kitamura, the 6th Nebuta Master, Hiroo Takenami, the 7th Nebuta Master, Renmei Kitamura, Ryusei Uchiyama, Kou Oshira, Shin Suwa, Shunichi Kitamura, Asako Kitamura, Ryuho Tatsuta, Shigeki Tezuka, Hiromi Hayashi, Yuki Yoshimachi, Hiroaki Fukushi, Rika Tsukamoto, and Takashi Nomura (in no particular order, titles omitted). Their artworks, themed on "waves," will be displayed on the carriage deck of the Hakkoda Maru.

The event is organized by Aomori City and the Aomori City Board of Education. AIRS, which has long supported the art activities of the Aomori Contemporary Art Center (Aomori City), is in charge of planning and running the executive committee secretariat. Shinobu Takahi of the secretariat said, "This is a new creation that focuses on the techniques and expressions of Nebuta. Unlike Nebuta that are based on historical stories, each Nebuta artist expresses themselves freely. We hope that you will come and see the works of the Nebuta artists as creators."

The Hakkodamaru Multipurpose Large Hall will exhibit works by artists active in Aomori, as well as host experiential workshops and sell original products.

The event will be held from 9:00 to 19:00 (until 17:00 on August 7th). Admission is free (there is a fee to view the Hakkoda Maru). Until August 12th.
